You can take all the sincerity in Hollywood, place it in the navel of a fruit fly,
and still have room enough for three caraway seeds and a producer's heart ..
.. Fred Allen

-   Follow caterwauler on Twitter   -  probably silly, but you can follow me on Twitter too .

- check out YouTube for Michael Caine on acting in film, 6 parts very instructional - start here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHfz7_YjRww

- excellent book, history of the silent era of movie making - The Parade's Gone By - by Kevin Brownlow.

- movie to see (of course) Cat on a Hot Tin Roof - Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman, Burl Ives.

- My favorite scene stealer of all time - Donald Pleasance. No matter who is speaking, he draws your attention.

- Fave female scene stealer - Piper Laurie, she is magnetic on screen.

And if you want to see how an actor can take over a film, watch Ragtime with James Cagney in his last role.

He doesn't appear until about half way through but then commands your attention the rest of the way.

A tour de force for a man who had to be coaxed out of retirement to play the part.

but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.
